I have installed dozens of these Samsung Performer LED tubes and they are wonderful. Installation is very easy and since there is no ballast, a potential failure point is eliminated. Please remember to turn off the electricity before starting! Generally, I have found that if you cut the current ballast wires at no more than 2” from the ballast, you will have enough existing wire to complete the new wiring installation without having to have extra wire. You do need unshunted tombstones for the installation.
The 2050 lumens of light produced is clean and clear – very nice to work under. For me, these 3500K tubes are second only to the 4000K tubes which are my favorites – again, just a personal preference. The 3500K color (neutral white) is a bit of a tough find in most places, as retailers seem to be handling mostly 2700K (warm white), 5000k (daylight) and the occasional 3000K (warm white). Whatever color you decide is best for your application, you will love these lights!
At the current price these are an incredible buy! Figuring they are likely to last 25 years, the initial purchase price works out to less than $1 per tube per year. The 18 watts they consume is at least a 40% savings over fluorescent T-8 tubes – and they are brighter and will not buzz or flicker. Besides all the other nice qualities they possess, they are made of a tough plastic, so the chance of breakage is quite low. The only potential downside is that they are not dimmable.
