Cree or Halo?  Which brand is right for you?

Cree LED downlights provide a simple all-in-one solution that can be used in both retrofit and new construction applications. Our most popular LED downlight, the Cree LR6, provides a light output comparable to or brighter than a 65 watt PAR lamp while using only 12 watts of power. That means you can run five Cree downlights for about the same cost as one traditional downlight! It's designed to fit most standard six inch cans and is available in two color temperatures, a traditional warm white (2700°K) and a neutral white (3500°K) whose light output is not as yellow as the warm white but doesn't contain the blue tint of cool white lamps. The LR6 is dimmable to approximately 20% with a standard incandescent dimmer (most dimmers will require three or more on the switch in order to dim properly) and comes with built-in technology that allows the light to maintain an even color as it dims. All downlights in the LR6 series are damp rated and can be used in bathrooms, covered porches etc. The Cree LR6 is available with an Edison base or with the GU24 base required for California Title-24 applications. The LR6 series downlights come with a standard white trim ring, light engine and GU24 adapter (when ordering a GU24 base lamp). Retrofitting an LR6 downlight into a standard six inch can is a simple process and takes just a few minutes. Other models of Cree downlights include the LE6 series (an LR6 with eyeball trim), the LR4 series for four inch cans and the LR24 series for replacing 2' x 2' fluorescent light fixtures.

Halo LED downlights allow you to customize the look of the lights for their particular application. The LED light engine and trim ring are sold separately, and a number of different trim colors and styles are available. Please note that not all trim rings are damp rated, Title-24 compliant or ENERGY STAR qualified. Using just under 14 watts, the Halo LED 600 series module is available in four color temperatures ranging from warm white to neutral white: 2725°K, 3045°K, 3465°K and 3985°K (we currently stock the 3045°K module that falls between the two color temperatures Cree offers). The light output of the LED module varies from 400-760 lumens depending on which trim ring is chosen to complete the downlight. Like the Cree LR6, the Halo LED downlight is dimmable, down to 15% with a standard incandescent dimmer or to 5% using an incandescent dimmer with low end trim adjustment (most dimmers will require four or more on the switch in order to dim properly). The Halo LED module utilizes a snap-on wiring clip designed to retrofit into existing cans with an Edison screw base adapter (included with the module) or to clip directly into the Halo dedicated LED housing for Title-24 applications. Where having a custom look or dimming to a very low level are important, the Halo LED downlight may be more suitable for your application.
